Immigration Reform Resolution

April 5, 2013

Immigration reform is an important issue currently being discussed and debated by Congress. As the San Diego-Tijuana international border ports of entry drive regional and national trade with economic benefits approaching $500 billion in trade in 2011, it is vital that the City Council ensure that our federal representatives dearly understand our priorities on this issue.

A couple different proposals to state the City s position have been put forward for consideration. After thoughtful deliberation on both proposals we have drafted the attached resolution language for for Council consideration. We believe that this proposal sends a clear message to Washington that reforming the immigration system in a way that allows for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States is vital to a successful strategy moving forward.

We encourage the City Council to support the attached changes.
