Alvarez Statement on 101 Ash Street Building

May 23, 2018

SAN DIEGO (May 23, 2018)- Councilmember Alvarez has issued the following statement regarding 101 Ash Street Building Lease and Proposed Tenant Improvements:

"101 Ash Street is a money pit. The City has already paid $9 million for a vacant building and we have no indication of when the building will be used. In 2016, the Council was given inaccurate information when it approved the lease-to-own agreement. 101 Ash Street is one of several bad real estate deals that are costing taxpayers millions of dollars which could otherwise be spent on much needed core services such as public safety, street repairs and parks. It is the Council's responsibility to get to the bottom of this bad deal, and to closely oversee this project going forward.
