Alvarez on Transitional Housing Facility in Nestor

July 17, 2017

SAN DIEGO (July 17, 2017) – Councilmember Alvarez has issued the following statement regarding the Council’s approval today of the acquisition of real property located at 1788 Palm Avenue (Super 8 hotel) for the San Diego Misdemeanants At-Risk Track (SMART) Program.

"City Hall has once again ignored the South Bay Community. No City Councilmember would ever allow a project to move forward with minimal community engagement. The significant concerns raised by the California Coastal Commission that have been left unaddressed will ensure that this project is delayed. The City chose to disrespect the community, and not follow the law and is therefore in the worst possible situation: spending millions of dollars on a property and facility that may be left vacant for years."
