Assemblymember Alvarez to Chair First Budget Subcommittee Hearing on Education Finance at State Correctional Facility

San Diego, CA – Assemblymember David Alvarez (D- San Diego), Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, will Chair the first legislative hearing in a California state prison in 20 years and the first legislative hearing focused on higher education in prisons.

This significant discussion will include testimony from experts in correctional education, student perspectives, and other stakeholders to explore the role of education in reducing recidivism and improving outcomes for incarcerated individuals in California's correctional system.

WHERE: Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, 480 Alta Road, San Diego, CA 92179

INSTRUCTIONS: Note: Members of the public are welcome to attend the hearing; however, because the hearing is occurring on prison grounds, there are a few unique guidelines for participation. Members of the public wishing to attend the hearing should arrive at the public processing area between 1 pm and 4 pm the day of the hearing. You must have valid photo identification. You may not bring: cell phones; pagers; weapons of any kind; tobacco products, lighters, or matches; or bags or backpacks. You may not wear clothing that resembles incarcerated person clothing, such as: blue or grey denim tops or bottoms; blue tops, bottoms, or jackets; sweatshirts, sweatpants, or sweatsuits; orange tops, bottoms, or jumpsuits; lime green tops, bottoms, or jumpsuits; yellow raincoats or rain pants. You may not wear clothing with obscene images, camouflage or military-style clothing, or open-toed shoes.
