SAN DIEGO (June 23, 2016) – Councilmember Alvarez has issued the following statement in response to the City of San Diego’s Committee on the Environment approval today of the recommendation to enact the new Level One Drought Watch:
“San Diegans have responded very well to the water conservation measures- some months even exceeding our mandated goal,” said Alvarez. “The impacts of climate change will mean longer periods of drought- forcing us to conserve more and more. The message today is that we all need to continue to have a conservation state of mind.”
The City is currently in Level Two Drought Alert conditions. If approved by the City Council, the new drought watch level would go into effect thereafter.
